What is Remy Hair and Should I Use it?
Remy hair is a type of human hair that can be used in your hair system or hair piece. Said to give a totally natural appearance, Remy hair is also known as cuticle hair, virgin hair or raw hair – this means that it hasn't been colour treated prior to use.
Remy hair is usually gathered from a hair donor (please see our Hair Harvest procedure for more information) – this means that the hair in your Remy hair system is likely to be ethically sourced (providing it is from Bloomsbury of London who can guarantee this). A hair piece that uses this particular type of hair differs from other general off the shelf hair pieces as its' cuticles have not been stripped and soaked in acid to attain a particular style. Usually, in the production of a hair piece, the fibres used are soaked in acid before being coated in silicone to create a shiny and smooth appearance, however, a hair system that uses Remy hair doesn't need to undergo this procedure, as it doesn't get matted or tangled; this is due to all of the cuticles already being aligned and intact.
Indian Remy hair is the most easily obtained, and the colours of such hair is one that can matched most easily to the majority of ethnicities. However, it is also possible to obtain the hair from American, Asian and European donors – the origin of the hair can be established upon your consultation for your hair system.
Upon its abundance advantages over other fibres, Remy hair is smooth and shiny, giving it a healthy appearance (most of the time healthier than regular human hair). Not only will the wearer of the hair system rarely experience matting or knots but they will also notice that their hair piece gives a more natural appearance than other types of hair piece using human hair.
The fact to remember with this type of hair is that using it in your hair piece or hair system means that you will need to take extra care of it to keep it perfectly in tact. This means being particular care when washing and drying it (e.g. using specialised wig shampoo and not combing it when wet) – but our highly experienced wig styling technicians will be able to advise you further.
